Google Maps – 6 Easy Steps for Adding Contacts and Layers

Almost everyone knows how to use Google Maps for directions. It has become a staple in my household when going somewhere.  But did you know you could use Google Maps not only for your personal travel needs but also to increase your productivity and that of your clients?

1. Getting to Maps

Once you are logged into your Google Account you want to go to the right side of your screen and click on the app icon. Once you click on the App icon, click more and you will see Maps. Click that and it will open a new tab with Maps

2. Starting a New Map

Once you are in maps, you want to click on the Menu icon and at the bottom left of the screen, you will click Create Map.

3. Input Your Contacts

Once you have opened your new map, you have two options. You can manually input your contacts or import your contacts from your Google Sheets or upload from Excel. The great thing about importing your contacts is you do not have to change your titles/headings on your spreadsheets, you have the ability to pick and choose what you want to be seen. Also, the maximum number of contacts to input is 2000. If you are manually inputting your contacts, you can put in as little or as much information as you wish

4. Once your contacts are entered

You have the ability to change the design and colors of the pushpin locations on the map. I categorize mine by distance.  How do I know what points are close to each other you ask, I simply get step by step directions within the map feature

5. Creating Step by Step Directions

Click on any point on your map and then click the direction button listed below and select the next point. It creates a new layer and within that layer, you are able to select step-by-step direction which also gives you the time and distance of your points. You are able to select more than two points to get directions.

6. Save to Drive

Google Maps like all the other things Google offers saves right to your Google Drive. You have the ability to go in and tweak your map or add more layers with additional points to your map and it will automatically save to your GoogleDrive!
